In (God) we live, and move, and exist (have our being.) Acts 17:28
God is in all, and over all, and through all. Eph 4:6
It is God who is working in you… Phil 2:13
You are the temple of God, and His Spirit dwells in you… 1 Co 3:16
We have no choice about God’s omnipresence. We live in the context of God’s presence both inside us and outside us. We can ignore this reality, be asleep or blind to this intimacy, but our being unaware doesn’t change the essential connection between us and God. What our being oblivious does is shorten our potential life span to a max of about 120 years.
We can, however, acknowledge that we are not separate from God, not independent; Acknowledge that we are one with Him, and totally dependent upon Him for our every breath, every bit of food we eat, and every year we live.
Jesus said that “God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son that all those believing in Him might not perish, but have everlasting life. (Jn 3:16) God loved us sinners enough to provide us with a model so that we could see what Paul meant by “In Him we live, and move, and have our being.” Jesus did it to perfection!
Holy Spirit begot Jesus in Mary, so that He was conceived without the Adamic sin that so influences the rest of us. From conception, He was conscious of God’s “being in all, and over all, and through all.” He never felt separate from His Father until that moment that he “became sin for us,” (2 Co 5:21) and He cried out, “Father, Why have You abandoned Me?” Mt 27:46
Jesus knew that He and His Father were one with every fiber of His being. And both of them want us to know that intimacy too. That’s why He told His disciples, “Abide in Me, and I in you…” (Jn 15:3) For the same reason, He also said, “I am the good Shepherd,” and “My sheep know my voice and they follow me.” (Jn 10:11, 4) As well, He tells us, “Obey my commandments and you will remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in His love.” (Jn 15:10) Remember? God is love. (1 Jn 4:8) So to heed the voice of our Shepherd, who abides in us, whose mind we have, (1 Co 2:16) is to live in God’s love. And love imbues the loved one with life.”
Jesus was, in effect, saying, “Be one with Me as I am one with God in whom both you and I live, and move, and have our being.” (Jn 17:23) The result of consciously being in harmony with God spiritually is an intimacy we can hardly imagine at this point of our existence. But we can try – think of Adam and Eve talking directly with God, as apparently did Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Samuel. And that oneness provided Jesus with life-eternal, and potentially life everlasting for us. Who could want anything more?
