Who’s running this show anyway?
Hi. I’m Terry, and I grew up as an atheist. When I was about to graduate from high school, because I didn’t have a clue about where I was going next, I asked myself, “What are you going to do with the rest of your life, Terry?” And in retrospect, I believe that’s when our Shepherd stepped into my life! It took only forty five minutes to know my life’s mission: figure out how humanity could live harmoniously together, then teach them. In the course of the next four years our Lord (I didn’t know it was Him,) showed me how that could be done; then I got very deeply depressed. I had realized that it was impossible for mankind to do it on their own. My life became pointless.
That’s when God stepped in and, in effect, said, “OK, Terry. Now you’re ready to meet Me,” and started me on the next phase of my life by introducing me to the Bible.
I became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, because 1) while studying with them I found in the Bible the three “pillars of civilization”, that I had previously identified as essential to mankind’s well-being. According to the Bible, Yahweh, through Christ Jesus, was going to replace man’s life-crippling versions of government, economy, and religion, with His own life-healing versions – a kingdom with Jesus as king, an economy based on abundance rather than scarcity, and a unified body of people who sought primarily God’s glory rather than personal salvation. Those were the essential components needed for humankind to live in peace. As well, the Bible showed me how God was going to bring humanity out of its dark, pitiable, self-destructive condition into harmonious oneness with Himself and one another. He would accomplish this deliverance through His Son whom He anointed to accomplish that mission. Jesus, in turn, anoints us to be His co-workers.
Another reason I became a JW was because 2) they were teaching the Good News of God’s kingdom throughout the earth by means of their door-to-door witnessing, And, free of charge, they were conducting in depth personal Bible studies with anyone who was spiritually hungry and humble. And, 3) they refused to go to war.
But, according to His own timing, our Good Shepherd called me out of the JW organization in the year 2000. I began learning more about Him and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord a year later. What a precious privilege to know that I have the mind of Christ, that He abides in me, and I can abide in Him. “Thank you, Father, for opening my eyes to see that it is by letting Christ Jesus live through me to accomplish Your will, that Your name is glorified and I can have life in abundance.”
“…my life’s mission: figure out how humanity could live harmoniously together, then teach them.” – Now I know humanity can live harmoniously together. God will accomplish that through our Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ. My job now, is to teach. So, teaching is what this blog is all about.
