Justice and grace are antithetical in nature. The first involves the exchange of equivalent values, the second the exchange of non-equivalent values. Legalism is the fruit of Justice, while unearned blessings are the fruit of grace. Justice requires reciprocity, whereas grace allows room for mercy.
A few examples of our Father’s grace:
- God gives us food that is compatible with our bodies. As well, He has given us a metabolism that can transform fish, chicken, or cow flesh into human flesh.
- He has also given humanity enough air so that billions of people can all breathe simultaneously.
- And He’s given us enough water so that everyone can pee and thereby detoxify their bodies.
And what can we give God in exchange for these essentials? Non-equivalent value.
The best we can do is to express our gratitude and give Him our cooperation. But cooperation with Him is how we become one with Him. And that is what He treasures most of all – an intimate relationship with His children!
Thank God regularly for His grace. 1 Thes 5:18
